How to reduce Air Pollution?—Chapter 1 (Vehicular Air Pollution)
One of the major constituents of air pollution is vehicular
pollution; in this article, we will talk about how to decrease motor vehicle
pollution. Following is the list of several ways in my opinion-
1—Ban the sale of new vehicles running on petrol and
diesel-
As far as vehicles
running on CNG are concerned, let's keep in mind that there was no pollution
caused by obtaining CNG. Furthermore, vehicles running on electricity should be
promoted only on the condition that the electricity used to run them is
generated not by burning coal but by other means that do not cause any
pollution.
This ban is hard to implement, and those against it may say
that it will lead to loss of employment and revenue for the government, but let's
compare this loss to a decrease in quality of life, deaths caused due to toxic
air, hospitalizations caused due to this.
2-Hefty Fines-
The second way is collecting hefty fines from those who
pollute the air by driving vehicles that emit polluted air. Let's make PUC-cleared
vehicles only run on roads, and those involved in obtaining and issuing PUC via
bribes should be fined and jailed.
3-Promoting public transport, car pooling-
This will work wonders. This is because when you take your
car somewhere, only one person reaches the destination, whereas, in the case of
carpooling(3-4 persons in a car) or a bus, many reach the destination.
4-Promoting bicycle use-
Distance in 10kms range should be covered on a bicycle. This
will keep one physically fit, reduce transport costs, and not cause any direct
air pollution.
5-Walk to rock-
Those who like to take an auto to go anywhere nearby,
BEWARE. Stop doing that. Rather go by walk. Walking is good for the heart,
burns calories produce happy hormones in the body, and saves money.
6-Make odd-even mandatory
24*7-
Why does it come into the limelight when pollution levels go
up? Why can't we keep it mandatory 24*7? Authorities, Are you listening? Also, a
little inconvenience is fine when it comes to your health and long-term well-being.
7-Tax Ultra-Rich-
Government should tax the ultra-rich to invest in public
transport.
Recommendation-Government with citizens’ support can make
it possible.
